Leaders for Christ's church at work in the world

"It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work, and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey. The mind that is not baffled is not employed. The impeded stream is the one that sings." --Wendell Berry

Some of you are customer service specialists; some of you work in the medical field; some of you labor in construction fields... and some of you are ready for a change in the job routine. Perhaps the sight of a school bus brings nostalgic feelings of fresh beginnings. For others, the back to school ads on the radio or television bring you fond memories of trips to the store for a new pair of school shoes. At the very least, new energy and excitement are in the air for many of the students and their families in our communities.

I believe God can use this time of new energy around the school year to draw us closer into career--or as we like to say at seminary--vocational reflection. Perhaps this will be the season for you to begin your real journey of figuring out what to do as Wendell Berry writes so beautifully above. I invite you into this journey which may be baffling, but ultimately life-giving.

Be blessed on this September day of new beginnings.

  • If you are lucky enough to take some time, any time, to grow and study here, do it! Dedicated teachers will push you to develop the gifts you came with and encourage the gifts you never knew you had. As you research, worship, and create with your peers, you learn from their unique backgrounds as well. It has been such a blessing to take part in daily worship, to participate in service playing, planning and prayer. The music program is demanding, and so completely worth it. You'll feel like you developed a whole new set of wings for your future.
