Bishop Elizabeth Eaton to Address 2013 Graduates

Eaton, bishop of the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the ELCA, will address the graduating classes of Trinity Lutheran Seminary and Bexley Hall Seminary during commencement on Saturday, May 18, 2013. The day will begin with worship at 10 a.m. in Gloria Dei Worship Center, followed by commencement at 2:00 p.m. in Mees Auditorium on the campus of Capital University.

Bishop Eaton was chosen to lead the 84,000-member synod during a special election in December 2006. She previously served as pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, Ashtabula, Ohio, and was a member of the ELCA Church Council. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Bishop Eaton graduated from The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, with a degree in music education. She earned her Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass., and following her ordination in 1981 she served All Saints Lutheran Church in Worthington, Ohio. She later served Good Hope Lutheran Church in Youngstown. As the bishop of a Region 6 synod, she serves on the Trinity Lutheran Seminary Board of Directors.

Bishop Eaton is married to the Rev. Conrad Selnick, an Episcopal priest serving St. Christopher’s by the River, Gates Mills, Ohio, and they are the parents of two daughters.

Trinity Lutheran Seminary is one of eight seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Bexley Hall Seminary, located on the Trinity campus since 1999, is an accredited seminary of the Episcopal Church.
