Nelson w. Trout Lectures- April 30 & May 1

The Rev. Dr. Teresa Fry Brown, professor of homiletics and director of Black Church Studies at Emory University's Candler School of Theology, will be the featured speaker for the annual Nelson W. Trout Lectures on April 30 and May 1, 2015. Dr. Fry Brown will speak about the necessity of vital proclamation in the 21st century, under the theme "The Power of Proclamation in the 21st Century." 

Dr. Fry Brown's research interests include homiletics, womanism, womanist ethics, socio-cultural transformation, and African diaspora history focusing on African American spiritual values. She is the author of Can A Sistah Get a Little Help:Advice and Encouragement for Black Women in Ministry (Pilgrim Press, 2008); Delivering the Sermon: Voice, Body and Animation in Proclamation (Fortress Press, 2008); Weary Throats and New Songs: Black Women Proclaiming God's Word (Abingdon Press, 2003); and God Don't Like Ugly: African American Women Handing on Spiritual Values (Abingdon Press, 2000).

The Nelson W. Trout Lectures are free and open to the public. No registration required.

Rejoicing in the rich history and important influence of African American Christianity throughout the world, the Nelson W. Trout lectures in preaching remind us of the need to bring God’s message to life. Established in 1991, the Trout lectures honor former Trinity Professor, the Rev. Dr. Nelson W. Trout (1920-1996), who was the first African American Lutheran bishop in the United States. His vibrant preaching and commitment to social ministry inspired hundreds of seminary students and touched thousands of lives.
